Last weekend the Blue Tongues held their annual awards day at Couran Point, South Stradbroke Island.
Awards were voted for by the players and management of the Blue Tongues organisation, with the winners being those with the highest vote counts.

Newcastle North Stars Win Goodall Cup

The Newcastle North Stars defeated the Western Sydney Ice Dogs 4-1 this weekend to claim their 4th national championship in 6 years. Newcastle's Mickey Gilchrist led the North Stars to victory, netting 3 of the 4 goals.
The Blue Tongues team, organisation and fans would like to congratulate the North Stars on their victory.
Congratulations also goes to Lliam Webster of the Melbourne Ice for being named the AIHL Season MVP.

2008 Awards Luncheon

All Gold Coast Blue Tongue and Grizzly Ice Hockey Club Players, Sponsors, their family & friends are invited on a cruise to Couran Point Island Beach Resort on South Sradbroke Island Saturday, 30th August aboard the "BIG CAT" cruise boat and take part in the Awards Luncheon at the Resort.
Awards will be given out to the Blue Tongues, Gold Coast Monday Night League players, Division 3 Bears, and special presentation to the Junior Grizzlys.

Fox Sports Picks Up 2008 Australian Ice Hockey League Finals

For the first time in its 100 year history, an Australian Ice Hockey League Final will be televised across Australia following successful negotiations between the AIHL, Power Productions and Fox Sports.
The grand final will be shown on Fox Sports 1 on 8 September, at 11pm, followed by two more showings on Fox Sports 2 at 6am and 12.30pm on Tuesday 10 September in a move that is sure to add extra excitement to the sport’s Centenary year.

Penalties Hinder Blue Tongues

The Blue Tongues hosted the Adelaide A's today at Gold Coast Iceland. As neither team are able to make the top 4 on the ladder, the game was a matter of playing for pride, more than points.
The first period opened with the Blue Tongues #20 Marco Bertossa* scoring in the opening minute.The first period started well, with the Tongues scoring in the opening minute. A strong attack by the Blue Tongues saw Bryan Lachance score just 2 minutes later to put the Blue Tongues up 2-0.

AIHL Finals Tickets & Details

As per the AIHL website, This season's finals will be held at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium in Warners Bay, New South Wales in the greater Newcastle area. HISS is currently the best equipped rink for hockey in Australia with glass all the way around plus seating for up to 800 people and new lights and scoreboards.
